Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

by Rev. Kilian McCaffrey  |  07/11/2024  |  Pastor's Letter

“Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two” (Mark 6:7).

Two by two? Recall St. Matthew’s words:

“Where two or more are gathered in my name, I am there in their midst”

With Christ at the center of our lives, we are on the right road. Jesus gives us the power to heal others. He told them to travel lightly, to go quickly and gently as we bring healing to many who really need it. We are stronger and more powerful and it is a great responsibility.

“They anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.”

As Catholic Stewards and Disciples:
We move through this world differently;
We realize that we are passing through;
We dissociate from too many comforts;
We Travel Lightly and We Tread Softly.

God is with us and in control, we are working in the vineyards and fields of our world here and now. I will be away next weekend working on a Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat, helping women and men to heal from the devastating effects of abortion: I humbly ask for your prayers.

Please pray for our teens and Youth Group as they attend Steubenville West at U of A in Tucson this weekend.

We welcomed Fr. Samuel over these past two weeks. Born in Nigeria, he was raised in a Catholic family of seven.

He had his primary and secondary education in Nigeria after which he was admitted to study for the Priesthood in the Catholic Diocese of Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria. After having gained admission to the seminary, Samuel then acquired his first degree in Philosophy from St. Augustine Major Seminary, Jos, in the summer of 2008. After a one-year period of Pastoral work in his diocese, he moved in 2009 to Good Shepherd Major Seminary, Kaduna, where he obtained another degree in Sacred Theology. Upon graduation from his degree in Theology in the summer of 2013, Fr. Samuel along with four other of his classmates was ordained to the Priesthood on October 5, 2013.

Since his ordination, Fr. Samuel has worked in different Parishes within his home Diocese in Nigeria, and he also held some Administrative positions at the Diocesan Chancery before he came to the Diocese of Phoenix in July 2021. Since his arrival in Phoenix, he was Parochial Vicar in St. Rose Philippine Duchesne Parish in Anthem until now. Welcome, Fr. Samuel!

Remember Bible Study at 6"00pm on Monday, July 15, in the Church Classroom and our next Summer Movie Night: St. Ignatius of Loyola on Monday, July 22, in the Parish Hall.

Fr. Kilian, Fr. Samuel, our Deacons and Seminarian and our Parish Staff and great Disciples and Volunteers.
