4th Sunday of Easter - The Good Shepherd
by Rev. Kilian McCaffrey | 05/08/2025 | Pastor's LetterThe Fourth Sunday of Easter is always called Good Shepherd Sunday and is a traditional day of Vocations awareness. This image of The Good Shepherd is the enduring and shows God’s care, love and mercy for all of us.
Nobody wants to be called a sheep. It has some strange connotations. But in the eyes of God, we are these most profoundly gentle and pastoral creatures.
If Jesus can be likened to a lamb, why can’t we? There is something so essential about how God sees us and wants us to be gentle, meek, humble and kind, caring and devoted.
Indeed it was St. John the Baptist who pointed Jesus out as “the Lamb of God Who takes away the sins of the World.”
A shepherd knows his sheep’; he knows what helps them and what harms them. He feeds them with what is good and keeps them from what is evil. And he binds up all their wounds. The ideas of the good shepherd is as ancient as the Bible. Yet we see how little has changed over thousands of years: we still need good leadership in our world and in our Church.
“Christ Jesus is the Good Shepherd, and we strive to be shepherds after His own heart. With the Good Shepherd, we always triumph! We pray for the Conclave in Rome and for our new Shepherd, in this critical time in history.
Habemus Papam?
Going to press, the Conclave has not started. We do not know who the new Pope is. However, we most likely do by now.
The Beautiful Vocation of Motherhood
We pray in thanksgiving for the gift of mothers, and for the gift of human life. It calls us to cherish the gift of life that we receive from our mothers and to pray for all mothers to whom God has entrusted life to in a very special way.
Pray the Hail Mary slowly today and ask Our Blessed Mother to help us to read today’s Scripture passage prayerfully and to respond to Her Son with the grace of the Holy Spirit given us in Baptism. She helps us to love Her Son and to know we are loved by Him.
Happy Mothers’ Day
