Jesus Made House Calls Too!

We warmly welcome Bishop Eduardo Nevares who will celebrate the Croatian Mass at 11:30am Sunday Mass. All are welcome to attend.

Jesus said, “I stand at the door and knock.” There is a famous painting that depicts Jesus knocking on a door. The door has no handle on the outside, because the door can only be opened from the inside, by the one who lives behind the door.

Often when we read Sacred Scripture, we can place ourselves in the place of someone who encounters Jesus in a meaningful way. This is a good way to pray with Scripture, because it makes The Word come to life for us. We can even let Jesus approach us. In today’s rich Gospel passage, we can prayerfully place ourselves in Peter’s mother-in-law’s place.

Our readings today remind us that Christ came to serve. Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. They told Jesus about Simon’s mother-in-law who lay very sick with a severe fever. He knew she was there. He didn’t need to be told. Jesus simply grasped her by the hand and helped her up. Of course, the fever left her and she waited on them. Ask Jesus to be with you as you read this Scripture. Ask Jesus to take you by the hand and help you up. When you allow Jesus to come close, your soul comes to rest.

When you open the door of your heart to Jesus, the “fever” will leave, and you will be able to get up and serve Him.

The 2024 Charity & Development Appeal

The Lord Heals the Brokenhearted

As many of you know, the CDA is the annual appeal that supports well over 70 offices, groups, charities, ministries and apostolates in the Diocese of Phoenix. Since the Diocese began in 1970, every year, families are asked to prayerfully consider how much they will pledge to help others, acting as the heart and hands of Jesus.

Some of the Areas that the CDA Supports:

Charitable organizations extending their outreach services to those in need, including women’s health and pregnancy services, eldercare, counseling to the homeless, to our veterans, the unemployed, refugees and so much more. Ministry formation in the training of our deacons, parish directors and lay ministers.

Vocations and Seminarian Support and in helping our Clergy & Religious to become and continue to be our spiritual leaders.

Parishes and Missions, especially those serving underprivileged communities, Native American communities, Newman Centers, and in remote locations.

Catholic Schools that offer strong Catholic curriculum, and help develop the mind, body and spirit of each child.

Evangelization efforts in helping diverse communities to be touched by the light of Christ, creating opportunities for lay leader-ship formation.

Religious education supporting parishes in their mission to share Catholic teachings with people of all ages.

Open your heart to the CDA this year.

Fr. Kilian, Fr. Williams, our Deacons and our great Parish Staff, Disciples and Volunteers.
