Third Sunday of Advent
by Rev. Kilian McCaffrey | 12/12/2024 | Pastor's LetterThis is the Third Sunday of Advent, and is also known as GAUDETE Sunday. Rose is the Color of this weekend. Rose and purple are also the colors of our sunrises and sunsets in these shortest days. We are past the half-way point of Advent. We REJOICE in The Lord Jesus! For Jesus IS Coming Soon “Exhorting them in many other ways, John preached good news to the people.” We are over half-way to Bethlehem.
Bring Us The GOOD NEWS Jesus comes near to us, and He loves us. The LORD SINGS joyfully because of YOU! The people came to John the Baptist and were filled with expectation, seeking the Christ, wondering if John was the One. John has a double-edge to his message of good news. It requires a major change in our attitude. The call to be stewards is vital to our spiritual lives. As Dr, Brant Pitre explains:
“It’s good news for those who repent, turn away, and begin to live the life of charity that Christ calls us to. So in this Advent season I just would call to your attention and to mine, all of us, to practice the corporal works of mercy, especially feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and the elderly, and giving to the poor, these are not optionals, these are essentials for preparing our hearts for the coming Messiah” (www.massreadingsexplained).
